Program Description
Discover the flavours of the island and its authentic side on Tasting Rhodes – a unique culinary experience that brings together local traditions, wine and warm hospitality. This tour allows you to explore the island beyond the usual sights and experience it through its cuisine, people and stories passed down through generations.
Your journey begins in the mountain village of Apollona, set at the foothills of Mount Profitis Ilias. It’s a place where life moves at a slower pace and traditions are still very much alive. You will visit a women’s agricultural cooperative, where local women create traditional products and preserve long-established recipes. You’ll gain insight into their daily work and discover the secrets behind regional delicacies.
After a relaxed walk through the village, you will visit a local winery, where you’ll learn about indigenous grape varieties and enjoy a tasting of award-winning wines from Rhodes. It’s a great opportunity to understand the flavours and character of the region.
The highlight of the experience is a hands-on cooking class with a local cook. You’ll learn how to prepare classic Greek and Rhodian dishes such as tzatziki, eggplant salad, dolmadakia and traditional cheese pies, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients and authentic techniques.
At the end of the experience, you will sit down to enjoy a homemade lunch featuring the dishes you’ve prepared together. In a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, you’ll experience genuine Greek hospitality. Before leaving Apollona, you will also discover the secrets of preparing traditional Greek coffee during a visit to a historic village café.
The order of visits and the programme may be subject to change.
