Program Description
Step into a place that for centuries stood at the heart of an empire and symbolised the power of the Ottomans. Topkapi Palace in Istanbul is not only a former residence of sultans, but also a fascinating journey through history, art and the daily life of one of the world’s most influential royal courts.
During your guided visit, you will immerse yourself in a world of splendour and intrigue. You will pass through the monumental Imperial Gate and enter the vast palace complex that once served as the centre of power. As you explore its courtyards and halls, you will discover what life was like for the sultans and how an empire that shaped the fate of Europe and Asia for over 600 years functioned.
You will visit richly decorated chambers housing remarkable collections – from ceremonial robes and weaponry to personal belongings of the rulers. The Imperial Treasury is particularly impressive, showcasing unique artefacts and precious objects that still reflect the empire’s former glory. You will also see the armoury and the spaces where key political decisions were made.
As you move through different parts of the palace, you will learn about the conquest of Constantinople and understand how Topkapi became a symbol of the Ottoman Empire’s growth and influence. Your guide will explain the purpose of each area – from grand audience halls and private apartments to bathhouses and service quarters.
Within the complex, you will also find the former palace kitchens, now transformed into a space where you can experience traditional Turkish flavours and add a culinary touch to your visit.
The order of visits and the programme may be subject to change.
