Program Description
Discover the cultural treasures surrounding Bucharest on a full-day excursion combining historic monasteries, peaceful lakeside scenery and one of Romania's finest architectural landmarks. This tour offers a fascinating insight into the country's religious heritage and aristocratic past.
After hotel pick-up, travel to Snagov Monastery, located on an island in Lake Snagov. Founded by Mircea the Elder, the grandfather of Vlad the Impaler, the monastery was once one of Wallachia's most heavily fortified religious buildings and an important cultural centre, housing one of the region's earliest printing presses. You'll have free time to explore the surroundings, and those who wish may visit the monastery's interior.
The journey continues to Căldărușani Monastery, beautifully situated on the shores of a lake and surrounded by woodland. Built in the 17th century by Matei Basarab, it is one of the oldest and largest Orthodox monasteries in Wallachia, renowned for its impressive collection of religious artefacts, icons and historic books. Visitors who wish may also explore the monastery's interior.
The final stop is the elegant Mogoșoaia Palace, a magnificent residence built in the distinctive Brâncovenesc architectural style, which combines Renaissance, Byzantine and Oriental influences. Explore the palace and its beautiful grounds while discovering one of Romania's most important architectural monuments.
After the excursion, you'll return to your hotel.
