Program Description

Western Algarve is a region filled with history, maritime legends and spectacular landscapes, where the powerful Atlantic Ocean meets the rugged cliffs of southern Portugal. This tour will take you through places connected with Moorish heritage, Portuguese discoveries and the old legends of the “end of the world”.

The first stop is Silves, the former Moorish capital of the Algarve. For centuries, the town played an important role in the region and still impresses visitors with its medieval atmosphere. Dominating the skyline is the impressive red sandstone castle, considered one of the best-preserved Moorish fortresses in Portugal. As you stroll through the charming streets of Silves, you will discover traces of Arab history and the authentic atmosphere of old Algarve.

Next, you will travel to the coastal town of Lagos, closely linked to the Age of Discovery. It was from here that Portuguese explorers once set sail on voyages that changed world history. During the visit, you will see (from the exterior) the beautiful Church of St. Anthony. There will also be free time in Lagos for lunch, shopping or individual sightseeing. Guests may additionally choose an optional boat trip to the spectacular Ponta da Piedade cliffs, considered some of the most breathtaking rock formations in the Algarve.

The journey continues to Sagres and the legendary Cape St. Vincent, the southwesternmost point of mainland Europe. For centuries, this dramatic location was believed to be the “end of the world”, where the known land disappeared into the endless Atlantic Ocean. Towering cliffs, crashing waves and wild coastal scenery create an unforgettable landscape that perfectly captures the raw beauty of western Algarve.

The order of sightseeing and the programme may be subject to change.

The tour is organized subject to a minimum number of participants (min. 20 pax).
