Program Description
Palaces usually reveal what was meant to impress their guests. Gödöllő lets you look a little further. Behind its grand interiors lie the stories of Sisi and Franz Joseph, who made this their summer residence. Just a 30-minute drive from Budapest, you’ll step into a world of royal chambers, palace secrets and the Austro-Hungarian era.
During a guided tour, you’ll explore the Baroque Gödöllő Palace and discover its connection to Queen Elisabeth, known as Sisi, and Franz Joseph. As you walk through its interiors, you’ll hear stories about the royal couple and their life at the former residence. Not everything, however, was meant to be seen - you’ll also discover hidden doors and rooms used by the royal couple.
After the tour, you’ll have some time for a coffee break and a visit to the souvenir shop before heading back to central Budapest. Gödöllő reveals the story of the monarchy not only through its royal splendour, but also through places once hidden from the eyes of its guests.
