Program Description
Pick-up from the hotels in very early morning. The name of this historic city comes from the name of its famous founder - Alexander the Great. Alexandria was one of the largest centers of mental and cultural life in the ancient world. Visiting one of the seven wonders of the medieval world. The next point of the trip is the famous Pompey Column carved in pink granite. It was erected in honour of Emperor Diocletian in 300 AD and is the largest column in the Greek-Roman world. Then - admiring the Fortress Qaitbay built on the site of one of the wonders of the ancient world - the Lighthouse on the Faros. It was built on the Mediterranean coast in the 15th century. The building was an important part of Alexandria's defense system. Lunch and free time to buy souvenirs. Return to the hotel in Marsa Matruh.

The tour has its pros and cons. Poor organization of the tour time; there`s little time to explore the interesting places. The guide didn`t mention that the Alexandria Library houses an archaeological museum (worth adding to the program).
