Program Description
A day of striking contrasts - from history preserved in the walls of an abandoned city to relaxation in a turquoise bay. During this tour of eastern Cyprus, you will cross the Green Line, which has symbolically divided the island since 1974. You will explore places marked by the past and then unwind by the crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
After passport control, you will enter the northern part of the island and head towards Famagusta. The most moving experience will be a walk through Varosha - the ghost town, abandoned after the events of 1974 and closed for decades. You will stroll along streets lined with hotels, houses and shops frozen in time. It is a place that invites reflection and offers insight into the modern history of Cyprus - without going into political detail, yet with an understanding of its significance.
Next, you will visit the old town of Famagusta, surrounded by impressive Venetian walls. A walk along these fortifications reveals how important this port once was in the eastern Mediterranean. There will be time for photographs, a short break or the opportunity to buy souvenirs. Those interested may also visit Othello’s Tower, traditionally associated with Shakespeare’s famous tragedy.
After the historical part of the day, you will head to the coast. You will board a boat and set off on a cruise along the eastern shoreline of Cyprus. Along the way, you will see secluded bays and rock formations visible only from the sea. The highlight of this part of the tour is the Blue Lagoon, renowned for its clear, turquoise waters. There will be time for swimming or snorkelling, and equipment will be available on board. An additional swimming stop is also included in the programme.
During the cruise, a freshly prepared meal will be served on board, accompanied by a local drink. After a day combining history and relaxation, you will return to your hotel with a new perspective on eastern Cyprus.
The order of visits and the programme may be subject to change.
