Program Description

The eruption of 19 September 2021 changed the landscape of La Palma forever. This unique excursion gives you the opportunity to explore one of the island's newest natural landmarks and discover how nature continues to reshape the landscape after this extraordinary volcanic event.

Your adventure begins with a hotel pick-up before travelling to El Llano del Jable, where you will meet experienced guides specialising in this unique hiking route. From here, you will follow a specially created trail leading towards the impressive cone of Tajogaite volcano, offering a rare chance to experience this remarkable landscape up close.

During the approximately 3.5-hour hike, you will see the monitoring equipment used to study the volcano and learn how scientists continue to observe the effects of the eruption. Along the way, you will also witness the remarkable resilience of the Canary Island pine, which has begun to flourish once again despite the dramatic changes caused by the volcanic activity.

As you hike through the surroundings of the Aridane Valley, you will discover a landscape shaped by the 2021 eruption. You will also learn how this extraordinary natural event transformed both the island and the lives of its residents.

At the end of the hike, you will return to the starting point before being transferred back to your hotel.

Discover Cumbre Vieja volcano and experience first-hand a landscape shaped by one of the most significant geological events in La Palma's recent history.

A tiring 7 km on volcanic gravel, but the views of the still active volcano are magnificent.

An exciting trip, I wouldn`t call it trekking, although it`s 6.5 km 😁 - we go downhill, on black lava sand, wind and dirty socks guaranteed - so it`s trekking after all. But seriously: fantastic views, vegetation that is fighting to regenerate after the volcanic eruption, and above all - the guide, Mrs. Jaga, who talks with eloquence about volcanoes and life under the volcano. This area - a must-see on La Palma
