Program Description
Step through the gates of Tratzberg Castle and travel back to a time when Renaissance residences were known for their elegance, rich details and extraordinary craftsmanship. Rising above the Inn Valley among the Tyrolean landscapes, the castle tells a story of more than 500 years of history, featuring original interiors and a fascinating transformation from a former fortress into an impressive Renaissance residence.
The history of the castle dates back to the 13th century, when it served as a border fortress between Bavaria and Tyrol. Over the centuries, Tratzberg experienced many changes, including changes of ownership, destruction, rebuilding and a devastating fire in 1492, all of which shaped the castle we see today. It is now considered one of Austria’s best-preserved Renaissance residences.
During your visit with an audio guide, you will explore the castle’s approximately 500-year-old original rooms. Discover highlights such as the impressive Habsburg Hall, the elegant Queen’s Room and the historic Fuggerstube, while learning about the people and stories connected with this remarkable place.
Enhance your visit with a 360° virtual reality experience that takes you back to the year 1492. Thanks to modern technology, you will witness the transformation of the former fortress into an impressive Renaissance residence. A virtual night flight allows you to admire the beautifully illuminated castle from a completely new perspective.
